Welcome to Positive Muslims, We are a faith based organisation in the field of HIV & AIDS.  Positive Muslims was established in the year 2000.

We offer our services from an Islamic perspective to all of humanity.  We encourage compassion, mercy and non-judgementalism towards all human kind.

Positive Muslims acknowledges that HIV & AIDS is manageable where people infected and affected can live a fore filling life.

We hope that our message will be conveyed and understood by our work in the communities and the information available on this Website.

Our Philosophy

We are committed to developing a belief of compassion, a way of reading the Quraan and understanding the Sunnah (the path of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) that focuses on Allah, who cares deeply about all creation.  This is Allah who, according to a hadith (prophetic tradition), said at the time of creation, “Indeed, my mercy overcomes my anger.’  Such compassion, we believe, must be accompanied by a critique of, and challenge to, a society that forces people to the margins.

Our Method

We try to conduct our affairs in a spirit of accountability (muhasabah), transparency, and collective decision-making (shura).
We want our own gatherings to be safe spaces for all our members to be spiritually inspired and to feel personally supported.
We want to at all times uphold the integrity of those who come to us for support and maintain the absolute confidentiality of the support/counselling process through clearly laid down guidelines.

Our Aims

• We want to create and deepen awareness among Muslims about the occurrence of HIV & AIDS in all Muslim and Non-Muslim communities including.

• We want to educate our community about what HIV & AIDS is, the ways in which it is contracted,

• Ways of avoiding it and the fact that no one is ‘above’ acquiring it.

• We want to find and implement ways of supporting people living with HIV & AIDS to continue a positive life journey.

• This will involve counselling, helping accessing affordable treatment and offering spiritual support.

• We want to lobby all the relevant structures both in government and in civil society, particularly our own religious leadership to help in the cause, to increase our compassion, mercy and non-judgementalism for people of all walks of life.

• While our own work is primarily among Muslims, we are committed to working with all the other progressive groups working on HIV & AIDS.
